Family Friendly-Responder Focused
We started this local event in 2022 as a way to honor the fallen in our community and as a way to bring first responders and the community together. Proceeds from the 805 HERO WALK will be donated to local organizations that support public safety mental health and leadership training. We know that well training and healthy first responders make better decisions under stress.

Why are we doing this?
Several years ago we learned about an event called "Carry the Load" which is what our event is modeled after. The spirit of Carry the Load is "Who are you carrying?" and symbolizes carrying your fallen brother or sister. We created our own event and called it the 805HERO Walk and we walk to honor our fallen Ventura County First Responders because a hero remembered never dies.
About Carry The Load:
What started as a mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day has grown to include more than just our military heroes and more than just the one holiday. Carry The Load works to bring all Americans together to participate in honoring our nation’s heroes every day. -2011 Founded by Veteran U.S. Navy SEALs, Clint Bruce and Stephen Holley, Carry The Load's mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day which is why our event will always be in Memorial May.

The 805 Hero Walk is the only memorial walk dedicated to honoring the memory of fallen first responders from Ventura County. Join us on Saturday, May 17th for a 3-mile walk that will begin and end at Harbor View Park in the Channel Islands Harbor which is located at 4000 S. Harbor Blvd in Oxnard, California. Join hundreds of men, women, and children from every corner of our community walking together to honor the sacrifice of our first responders who have died in the line of duty and those who died by suicide. This is event is for all fitness levels, and we encourage you to bring the kids and your dog if they are social. The walk will take about an hour at a leisurely pace so you can enjoy the Channel Islands Harbor views.
This event was created by a United States Marine Corps Veteran who served Ventura County as a Police Officer for over 29-years as a way to honor fallen first responders and their families because "A Hero Remembered Never Dies". This year's event is $20 for an individual and $35 for a family for anyone walking in our event.
What to expect:
This is a fun walk that will be casual for all fitness levels. We will begin with some brief instructions about the route and why we are walking. We will then leave together and walk for about 3-miles which will take about 60-80 minutes to complete along the beautiful Channel Islands Harbor and surrounding area. There will be bathrooms available near the starting point and along the route. This is a fun easy walk and we hope for a beautiful sunny morning in Oxnard. Event hats and t-shirts will be available for purchase the morning of the event.
Who will be walking:
This event is open to the public and it will be attended by police officers, deputy sheriffs, firefighters, paramedics, veterans, surviving family members and members of our community. In previous years events we have been blessed with the presence of surviving family members of first responders who were killed in the line of duty as well as those who died by suicide. We hope that you will come come out and join us to celebrate our local heroes.
This is the only event of its kind in Ventura County and we hope that you will come out and walk with us and bring your family and friends. Fees and donations help to cover the cost of the permits, insurance and the storyboards that will be displayed. We will have bottled water available for all walkers.
